Painting of Josephine Baker from my inspiring women series.
Josephine Baker was an entertainer who became famous for her singing, dancing, and acting. She worked for the French Resistance during World War II and fought for civil rights in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. By the end of her life, she had adopted twelve children of varying racial and ethnic backgrounds, calling them her “Rainbow Tribe.” .
