Billie Holiday – Original Framed Oil Painting
Painting of Billie Holiday from my inspiring women series.
I paint in an energetic expressive style. The portrait is built up with as a rich tapestry of subtle colour variations for a lively and individual painting. The matt paper represents the brushstrokes and texture of my original painting.
I painted Billie Holiday because I have always been captivated by her sultry and strikingly melancholy voice. This painting is based on her famous 1939 performance at New York’s Café Society. With her head tilted back and white gardenias in her hair she introduced the world to two of her most renowned songs, “God Bless the Child” and “Strange Fruit,” the latter of which left witnesses stunned.
This beautiful oil painting comes framed in a stunning wide black wooden frame, painted so you can see the wood grain with a gold inner line. This frame was carefully selected to best set off the painting.
